They're Fleeing the Country!
One of the very unfortunate hyped stories running wild through various newspapers and scientific and academic journals, is the idea that if we don't remove the federal restrictions on embryonic stem cell research we will lose great scientists to other countries. Michael Woods, the science editor for the Toledo Blade has the guts to tell the real story. Embryonic Stem cell research using private funds in totally legal and unrestricted in the U.S. NIH funding with taxpayers dollars funds 100s of millions of dollars annually for stem cell research (embryonic, adult and cord blood). And compared to many other countries around the world who will fine you and throw you in jail, the U.S. is a very hospitable stem cell haven for researcher. Interesting to point out, those countries in the EU who oppose embryonic and embryo cloning research are affiliated with the socialists and green parties on the left. These are the coalitions being built here in the U.S. as well. You just don't hear that part of the story, just that this is a prolife, radical right winged agenda!
