Big News in the Embryonic Stem Cell Debate!
Using microgravity technology, developed by NASA, scientists in London have found they can take blood from a newborn's umbilical cord, multiply the stem cells, and turn them into any kind of tissue from the body they want. " The newly discovered human cells, called "cord-blood-derived embryonic-like stem cells" or CBEs, are more versatile than adult stem cells, found in bone marrow, which can mend damaged tissue during life." It is clear that this new discovery will mitigate the need to create human embryos to obtain their stem cells. It is also wonderful that the national cord blood registries are well underway so cord blood can be donated and banked for future use.
