- American researchers revealed that by the time children born of parents with infertility problems were six, they had four times the risk of developing autism. They also had nearly three times the risk of serious disorders such as cerebral palsy and cancer.
- Finnish research showed the toll IVF techniques take on the mother's health as well; 14 per cent of women who had undergone IVF treatment ended up in hospital with serious complications such as miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and side-effects from drug treatments.

Did the three times the risk of cerebral palsy result from the infertility problems or did it result from the IVF techniques?
I think the "answer" is in the article which states, "Does a procedure such as embryo freezing carry more risk than, say, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), which involves injecting a single sperm into the egg? Does ICSI allow genetic damage to be passed to the child? Drug treatments pose threats, too; can one type cause birth defects? Do others cause cancer?" There are many unknown factors and because IVF has been so unregulated and the children/women not followed in any long term, meaningful studies/databases we are only at the tip of the issues.
